Poet gives interactive lecture

"Basic Mysteries," an interactive lecture on poetry and poetics by beat and San Francisco Renaissance poet David Meltzer is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, at the Ashland library's Guanajuato Room, 410 Siskiyou Blvd.

The event costs $40 at the door. Some of the material for the lecture will come from Meltzer's book, "Two Way Mirror: A Poetry Notebook," which will be available for purchase at the lecture for $15.

Topics will range from poetry's roots in oral tradition, the invention and mythologies of writing systems, poetry's resurgence as an oral art today and its place in the digital world.

David Meltzer is the author of more than 40 books of poetry and prose, and has edited numerous anthologies and collections of interviews.
