Play around with science

ScienceWorks Museum in Ashland is a perfect place to take the kids to keep them busy and maybe even teach them something while school's out.

The museum, which is eight years old this month, currently features "The Secret Science of Toys," an exhibit that encourages youngsters to explore basic science principles as demonstrated by common toys and games. That seasonal display complements the museum's permanent displays, which provide opportunities to play around with bubbles, trains, light, water rockets and optical illusions. Special activities today include a "Cool Science" demonstration with liquid nitrogen and "make-it, take-it" projects.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m Sunday. The museum, at 1500 E. Main St., Ashland, will be closed on Jan. 1.

Admission is $7.50, $5 for children 2 to 12 and adults older than 65. There are additional fees for some activities. See or call 541-482-6767 for a schedule of activities and other details.
