Outhouses, gunfighters and ice cream, oh my

The grand finale to Jacksonville's week-plus 150th birthday celebration is today, and all sorts of events are planned around the town.

A run and walk, a parade, outhouse races, an ice cream social, gunfighters, gold panning, tours of historic churches, beer and wine tasting, a pet fair, a Britt concert featuring Kenny Loggins and fireworks are among the plans for the day.

The parade is set from 10 to 11:30 a.m. starting at Main Street and ending at Bigham Knoll, the former Cascade Christian High School off E Street.

Outhouse races — the rules stipulate each must be equipped with all the essentials of a working facility — are at 11:30 a.m. on California Street. Ice cream follows on the courthouse lawn, and gunfighters will take to Third Street at 12:30 p.m.

Most events are free.
