Ousted Nev. legislator is arrested in clash with cops

LAS VEGAS — Hours after he became the first person in Nevada history to be kicked out of the state Legislature, an embattled former lawmaker led police on a chase on a freeway between Las Vegas and Los Angeles that ended with a violent struggle with uniformed officers.

Steven Brooks was subdued with punches and a Taser, arrested at gunpoint and jailed in California's San Bernardino County after police say he attacked a police dog with a wrench.

PORT HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — An Oregon woman has been charged with disposing of a body improperly after her 89-year-old mother's corpse was found behind a Michigan thrift store, concealed under snow and blankets, authorities said.

Kelly Rhodes, 49, of Salem, Ore., is jailed in Illinois, where she was arrested on a warrant charging her with the misdemeanor, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department said in a statement Thursday. She's expected to be brought to Michigan next week.

Graham Sweeney, 52, of Hamilton, Ontario, told the Times Herald of Port Huron that he doesn't believe his fiancee is responsible for dumping Mary Gertrude Grenia's body.
