OSP reports finding cocaine during traffic stop near Ashland

A Seattle man was arrested Tuesday near Ashland after an Oregon State Police trooper reportedly found nearly a pound of cocaine in his car.

The trooper pulled over Gerald Keith Riggins, 46, as his car traveled north on Interstate 5 near milepost 14, OSP said in a news release. The trooper stopped Riggins' 2012 Dodge Challenger because the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt, OSP said.

The subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led the trooper to discover about 13 ounces of cocaine in the Riggins' clothing and inside a backpack. A small amount of marijuana was also found. The estimated value of the cocaine is approximately $8,000.

Riggins was arrested and lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of possession, delivery and manufacture of cocaine.

A 50-year-old male passenger was cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, OSP said.
