OSP: Alcohol was factor in fatal crash

A 43-year-old Prospect man died early Sunday morning when his pickup rolled over on Highway 62 near milepost 40, according to the Oregon State Police.

Officers said alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Russell Schultz was travelling eastbound on Highway 62 at 1:42 a.m. Sunday when his 2002 Chevrolet pickup drifted into the shoulder, officers said. Schultz overcorrected to get back onto the highway and the truck flipped over multiple times before coming to rest on its wheels on the eastbound shoulder, the OSP reported.

Shultz, who was wearing a lap and shoulder belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The eastbound lane of travel was closed for about four hours.

The OSP received assistance from the Prospect Fire Department, the county medical examiner and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Authorities urge anyone with information about where Schultz was traveling to call the OSP at 541-776-6114, ext. 335.
