Oregon governor orders cuts as revenue outlook plummets

Gov. Ted Kulongoski has ordered across-the-board cuts in state spending to make up for a jolt of bad budget news for Oregon.

Kulongoski said today that state spending will be trimmed 9 percent for the rest of the current budget period.

The governor ordered the cuts after state economists said their revenue forecast has fallen by $500 million.

The shortfall was attributed to greater job losses and lower personal income than expected last year.
