One dies in fatal accident near Butte Falls; phones out

9:33 a.m. update: Butte Falls-area residents without phone service can get law enforcement help at a command center set up this morning at Reese Creek Christian Center at 900 Butte Falls Hwy., the sheriff's office has announced.

9 a.m. One person died in an accident this morning near Butte Falls that cut phone service to the area.

Phone service in the area, including 9-1-1 emergency service, is unavailable to 500 to 600 customers of phone provider Century Link and may not be restored until Wednesday, according to a news release this morning from Jackson County.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Highway 62 and Butte Falls Highway. No other details about it were immediately available.

Areas affected by the phone outage are on Butte Falls Highway from Highway 62 to Crowfoot Road, on Highway 62 from Mountain View Drive to North Hammel Road and on Highway 234 from Highway 62 to Dodge Bridge.
