Medford's Sweet Adelines proved the sweetest Saturday at a regional competition of chorus singers held in Spokane.

The award-winning troupe won first place among small choruses at a regional Sweet Adelines International competition.

Southern Oregon Sound, under the direction of Martha Segura, competed against 15 other choruses from Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Vancouver, Wash., at the annual event.

Pride of Portland, boasting about 100 members, was first overall. SOS had 26 singers on the Spokane stage Saturday and placed fourth overall.

The Medford group, which includes singers from Jackson and Josephine counties, placed second among small choruses in 2010 and third in 2009. It has moved up in the overall standings from seventh in 2009 to fifth last year and now fourth.

A public meeting to discuss the restoration of the Holly Theatre in downtown Medford will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Rosso's Trattoria, 31 S. Grape St., Medford.

Jefferson Public Radio hopes to raise up to $4 millionfor renovation of the Holly, in the 200 block of West Sixth Street. The Holly would feature a 1,000-seat auditorium.

Michael Betzina of Talent is the winner of the FOX 26 "X Factor" Audition Pass Contest.

Betzina will go to Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, May 25, to sing in front of an "X Factor" producer, bypassing the long lines at the auditions, according to a press release.

The "X Factor," which originated in the U.K. in 2004, is a singing competition that will launch next fall on FOX 26.

The resale shop at Hospice Unique Boutique will hold a new volunteer meet and greet at 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 6, at HUB, 1618 Ashland St., Ashland.

HUB provides ongoing financial support for hospice and other end-of-life care programs in the Rogue Valley. Volunteer opportunities are numerous. The public is invited to meet the volunteers, see the store and hear about ways to support hospice in the Rogue Valley.

The University Toastmasters Club has changed its meeting site. The club now meets at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at Siskiyou School, 631 Clay St., Ashland.
