An informational meeting on foster parenting and adoption will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at 936 Royal Court in Medford. Information will be shared about ways to help children in the community.

SOLV is offering a workshop on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., which is designed to help community volunteers lead and manage a litter cleanup, invasive-plant removal, native-tree planting or watershed maintenance and monitoring project in Southern Oregon.
The workshop, at Southern Oregon University's Hannon Library, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, provides leadership training, resources and materials on planning successful environmental volunteer projects. Topics include recruiting, educating and leading volunteers, preventing volunteer burnout, working with the media and fundraising.
There is a $20 suggested donation to help cover the costs of delivering the training.

Charlie Sinclair, a physicist and expert on worldwide armaments, will review the history of the development of the U.S. nuclear arsenal, the many treaties that have been proposed and the details of the new START treaty.

The Ashland Independent Film Festival will host its annual Oscar Night Gala from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Historic Ashland Armory. The party will feature the 83rd Academy Awards broadcast on two 30-foot screens, with dinner and dessert from Helena Darling Fine Catering, South Stage Cellars wines, Wooldridge Creek Winery sparkling wine and Noble coffee roasting.
The event, in addition to a celebration of Hollywood's biggest night, is a fundraiser for the nonprofit AIFF and will include an auction.
