New ESD chief will come from Albany

A student services director from an Albany education service district will be the Southern Oregon Education Service District's new superintendent.

Scott Perry, of the Linn Benton Lincoln Education Service District, was hired late Wednesday by the Southern Oregon ESD's board of directors to replace Superintendent Steve Boyarsky, who will retire June 30.

The salary for the position was expected to be in the $125,000 to $130,000 range, officials have said.

Perry, who has 27 years' experience in education, was the only finalist out of a candidate pool of 19.

He began his career as a school psychologist and since has worked as behavior specialist, education specialist at the Oregon Department of Education and elementary principal.

As Southern Oregon ESD superintendent, Perry will oversee a staff of 320 employees.

The ESD provides distance learning classes to rural schools, teacher and administrator training, special education and migrant programs and a variety of other support services to school districts in Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties.
