More suspected Medford drug dealers in custody

With additional arrests Thursday night, 17 of 23 suspected drug dealers targeted in "Operation Street Sweeper," an effort to get low-level drug providers off Medford's streets, are now in custody, police said.

Jennifer Dani Armstrong, 25, and Susan Jane Smith, 47, turned themselves in at the Medford Police Department. Armstrong was charged with possession and delivery of methamphetamine, and Smith was charged with possession and delivery of prescription drugs.

Tony Laverne Lewis, 55, was arrested in the 1200 block of North Riverside Avenue, Medford, on charges of possession and delivery of meth.

The arrests capped off a three-month undercover investigation into street-level dealers who repeatedly sell small amounts of drugs, mostly to help feed their own addictions, police said.

Authorities hope that removing some potential sources of drugs will help halt thefts, burglaries and violent crime by users and improve the livability of the community.
