Sketch of assault and strangulation suspect, provided by Medford police

Medford police seek suspect in assault, attempted strangulation

Medford police have released a sketch of a man suspected of grabbing a woman by the neck in a school parking lot.

An employee at Wilson Elementary School reported that a man in his late teens or early 20s assaulted her as she got into her truck to leave work at about 10 p.m. March 19, police said.

She fought back and set off a panic alarm on her vehicle, sending the young man running into the night, police said.

The suspect was about 6 feet tall, with a slender build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants with a stripe down the leg.

The victim didn't know her attacker, although she told police that she thought she had seen him earlier in the day, Medford police Sgt. Kevin Walruff said.

A detective was assigned to the case and the woman also worked with a police sketch artist to compile an image of her assailant, Walruff said.

"We have been investigating all along, but we had to verify some things before we went to the public," he said.

Now investigators are asking anyone who might know anything about the attack or the suspect to call Detective Mike Blair at 774-2242.
