Medford police plan pedestrian crosswalk sting

Medford police will conduct a "targeted pedestrian enforcement" operation at East Main and Bartlett streets from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 29. The operation will target drivers failing to yield the right of way to crosswalk pedestrians, according to a news release.

Motorists failing to stop for pedestrian traffic at the intersection will receive citations for failure to stop and remain stopped at the crosswalk or passing a stopped vehicle at the crosswalk. Both violations carry a $287 price tag.

Police officials said the point of the exercise is to remind motorists there is a crosswalk at every intersection, regardless of whether it is marked.
