Medford man jailed after stealing $5,000 diamond ring

A Medford man is in jail after allegedly stealing a $5,000 ring from Kohl's on Monday.

Medford police say Jonny Paul Herron, 23, entered the store at the Rogue Valley Mall to browse jewelry.

At one point he distracted the sales clerk and ran off with a diamond and white gold ring valued at $5,000, police said in a news release.

Herron fled the mall and was spotted in the parking lot.

On Wednesday, investigators linked Herron to the theft. They didn't have to go far to find him, as he had been arrested earlier by Central Point police on a failure to appear in court warrant and was residing in the Jackson County Jail.

Herron has been charged with first-degree theft and first-degree theft by receiving.

He remains lodged in jail on $12,000 bail.

Medford police are still working to recover the stolen ring.

Anyone with information that can lead police to the ring is asked to call Medford detectives at 541-774-2230.
