May Day comes early at museum

The Southern Oregon Historical Society will celebrate May Day with a variety of history-related activities Saturday at the Jacksonville Children's Museum, 206 N. Fifth St., Jacksonville.

Visitors will learn about the significance of May Day celebrations in the United States and dance a traditional dance around a maypole on the museum's front lawn. Craft activities will include mini-maypoles, Hawaiian leis and May baskets to give as gifts.

Craft activities will be available during museum hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Maypole dancing and refreshments will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If the weather is poor, the celebration will be moved inside the museum.

Cost is $3 for kids up to age 13 and seniors, $5 for adults, and free to SOHS members. Cost includes admission to both Jacksonville museums.
