Manor hopes to build second hotel adjacent to first

Rogue Valley Manor has launched a second hotel project just as it opens a first.

Pacific Retirement Services, the Manor's parent organization, is seeking to revise a plan it has filed with the city so it can build a four-story, 120-room Hilton Garden Inn adjacent to the new extended-stay Homewood Suites it opened this month west of Ellendale Avenue.

PRS originally had sought to build a 35,000-square-foot office building where it now hopes to build the second hotel.

The project is set to go before the city architectural review commission Oct. 23.

A hotel would attract more traffic along Ellendale Drive than an office building.

"Public works has concluded Ellendale has the capacity to do that," said Desmond McGeough, a Medford city planner.

PRS Development Manager Amy Weiser said the new hotel would be closer to the new South Medford freeway interchange and Bear Creek than the Homewood Suites project.

The Manor's original master Planned Unit Development was adopted in 1983, and a commercial addition was added in 1998. At 219.68 acres, it's the city's largest PUD. The next biggest is Saddle Ridge, a 205-acre residential development in east Medford.
