Man who used samurai sword guilty of attempted murder

KLAMATH FALLS — A jury has found a Klamath Falls man guilty of attempted murder for using a samurai sword to wound another man.

The verdict came after a three-day trial last week.

Prosecutors say 48-year-old Eddie Lee Hayes used the 2.5-foot sword on John Persinger at a Klamath Falls home, puncturing his leg and slashing his stomach.

Chief Deputy District Attorney David Groff says the assault was the result of a combination of alcohol and weapons that investigators run across all too often.

Sentencing is scheduled next week.
