Man struck, killed on freeway this morning was from Beaverton

Oregon State Police have identified the man who died this morning when he was struck by a pickup truck while he was walking on Interstate 5 near Azalea.

Jason Daniel Fugazzi, 26, of Beaverton, was pronounced dead at the scene, the OSP said in a news release today.

He was struck by a truck driven by Carl Ford, 80, from Azalea, who was driving south on Interstate 5 near milepost 88 at about 6:20 a.m. when his 2003 Ford pickup hit the man walking in the middle of the right southbound lane.

The right southbound lane was closed for about five hours during the investigation, slowing traffic this morning.

Ford was using safety restraints and was not injured. OSP troopers from the Roseburg office are continuing the investigation.
