Man jailed after alleged attack on Medford woman

A Medford man has been charged in a sexual assault reported Wednesday night and remains in jail this morning.

Geoffrey Lee Hungerford, 20, was lodged in Jackson County Jail early this morning on two counts of first-degree sexual assault and a charge of attempted first-degree rape, Medford police said.

A report of a domestic assault in progress summoned officers to the 400 block of East 12th Street at about 9:30 p.m., Medford police Lt. Bob Hansen said.

When police arrived, a 19-year-old woman said that Hungerford, whom she had considered a friend, came to her home and asked her to come outside and talk. She told investigators that he tried to rape her, but she broke free and called police.

Hungerford ran from the area, but was found on a street nearby, Hansen said.

He was interviewed by detectives, then jailed Hungerford this morning.
