MADGE officers seize crack, heroin and cocaine from Medford apartments

Police seized a load of heroin, crack, cocaine and pills from two apartments on Western Avenue in Medford early this morning.

Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement officers allege that the apartments were the headquarters for a large-scale drug operation that involved a pair of brothers and two women who lived with them and another man.

MADGE officers descended on the apartments, which are located on different floors of the same complex in the 500 block of Western Avenue, and found a cache of drugs and an unloaded 12-gauge shotgun. In addition, MADGE seized drug packaging materials and $2,404, believed to the be proceeds from drug sales.

In the upstairs apartment, investigators reportedly found 3.5 grams of powder cocaine and 8 grams of crack cocaine, something of a rarity in Medford, MADGE Lt. Brett Johnson said.

"It was a pretty good amount of crack, about the size of a large marble," Johnson said. "It's something we certainly don't see a lot of locally."

Also seized in the upper-floor apartment were 17 grams of heroin, 63 oxycodone pills and 20 grams of marijuana.

Raymond Henderson III, 28, and Merlene Galloway, 35, lived in the upper apartment and were charged with manufacture, possession and delivery of cocaine; manufacture, possession and delivery of heroin; and delivery and manufacture of oxycodone.

"They had quite an money-making operation going on," Johnson said. "One oxycodone pill goes for between $30 and $35."

Their roommate, Emmanuel Snowden, 33, was charged with delivery, manufacture and possession of heroin; delivery, manufacture and possession of cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police allegedly found additional drugs on Snowden when he entered the jail. Jail deputies seized 10 grams of cocaine and around 2 grams of heroin from Snowden inside the jail.

Henderson and Galloway each were lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $230,000 bail. Snowden was lodged on $205,000 bail.

The residents of the downstairs apartment were identified as Raymond Lee Patrick Henderson, 26, and Tatiana Renee Hearst, 24. They each were charged with two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and lodged on $10,000 bail.

In their apartment, MADGE officers found marijuana, one counterfeit $20 bill, a 7.62-caliber SKS rifle and a .25-caliber Valor pistol.

Department of Human Services officials responded to the apartments and took custody of five children living with the suspects. The children were turned over to relatives, police said.

Johnson said that drug sales of all kinds were occurring in both apartments.

"They had a little bit of everything," Johnson said. "They had enough quantity that leads us to believe a substantial amount of sales were happening."
