Locals fare well at pro rodeo

CENTRAL POINT — Chris McKoen of Merrill and Daniel Holland of Bonanza teammed to win the team roping competition in the first day of the Wild Rogue Pro Rodeo on Thursday.

Culver's Brian Bain and Pendleton's Ben Londo were also crowned winners in their respective events.

The duo of McKoen and Holland scored a 12.1, beating out Californian runners-up Walt Rodman and Joseph Shawnego who finished with a mark of 16.4.

Bain's tally of 78 was good enough to edge Bend's Wyatt Bloom (76) in bareback riding.

Londo nailed down a score of 81 in the saddle bronc riding.

The three-day event continues today and finishes Saturday. Doors open today at 6 p.m.

CALF ROPING — 1, Chant DeForest, Wheatland, Calif., 9.2; 2, J. Cody Jones, Kelseyville, Calif., 9.8.

STEER WRESTLING — 1, Sterling Lambert, Fallon, Nev., 4.1; 2, Wyatt Smith, Rexburg, Idaho, 4.9.

TEAM ROPING — 1, Chris McKoen, Merrill and Daniel Holland, Bonanza, 12.1; 2, Walt Rodman, Calt, Calif. and Joseph Shawnego, Oakdale, Calif., 16.4.

BARREL RACE — 1, Christine Richman, Glendora, Calif., 13.71; 2, Trula Churchill, Valentine, Neb., 13.79.
