LINCOLN, R.I. — Local boxer Mike Wilson defeated Joseph Rabotte by decision in a heavyweight fight at Twin River Casino on Thursday.
Wilson, who grew up in Central Point, is a former two-time amateur super heavyweight champion.
Wilson said he had not been in a fight for over a 11/2 years.
"It felt good to get back in the ring again," he said, adding he felt a little rusty and his timing was off.
Oregon Tech junior softball pitcher Taylor Schmidt earned NAIA All-American second-team honors, it was announced on Thursday.
Schmidt, a former North Medford High standout, helped lead Oregon Tech to the national tournament, where the Owls were eliminated last Saturday.
Schmidt set a single-season OIT record for pitching wins with 27 this season.
National champion Shorter University (Ga.) had two players earn spots with Jackie Castaneda and Charlsie Broome making the teams. Shorter eliminated Oregon Tech in pool play before going on to win the national title on Wednesday.
Oklahoma City's Lily LaVelle was selected NAIA Pitcher of the Year, while Kim Frazier of Lubbock Christian (Texas) was Player of the Year.
