Local arts organizations receive grants

The Oregon Arts Commission has awarded 110 grants totaling $1.2 million to arts organizations throughout the state. Local grants include:

  • Chamber Music Concerts, $5,000, to support the 2008-09 season, including 12 concerts and master classes, convocations, lectures/performances and school programs.
  • Oregon Shakespeare Festival, $60,000, to support the 2009 season of 783 performances of 11 plays in three theaters. Also, another $10,000 was awarded to support education programming.
  • Rogue Valley Symphony Association, $4,000, to support its 41st year of concerts in Ashland, Grants Pass and Medford and concerts for 3,000 elementary students from Medford, Grants Pass and Ashland school districts.
  • Schneider Museum of Art, $5,000, to support exhibitions, guided tours for students, lectures and workshops in 2008-09.
  • Ashland Independent Film Festival, $5,000, to support educational and cultural film screenings in addition to the annual five-day festival, which screens 90-plus films and events.
  • Britt Festivals, $8,000 to support its outdoor concert series featuring more than 40 performances in a variety of genres.
  • Arts Council of Southern Oregon, $7,000, to support art education in grades K-12 in Jackson and Josephine counties.
  • Rogue Gallery & Art Center, $6,000, to support visual arts and education programming, including a third Friday art walk, the Art in Bloom Festival, its rental sales gallery, exhibit space, classroom space and retail shop.
  • Rogue Valley Chorale, $3,000, to support the annual series of choral music concerts for audiences of all ages in Medford's Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater.
  • Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon, $5,000, to support the 2008-09 season providing young musicians from Jackson, Josephine and Klamath counties with training and performance opportunities.
