Library contract comes before county

It's one-way-or-another time for county commissioners this morning: They're scheduled to consider a private company's contract to provide library services.

The board of commissioners meets at 9:30 a.m. in the county courthouse auditorium at 10 S. Oakdale Ave. The meeting is open to the public.

The board will consider a contract from Maryland-based Library Systems and Services, known as LSSI. The company has made a bid to operate the county's 15 library branches, closed since April, for about $6 million. Some people have questioned the use of a contractor to provide the service, citing concerns about employee benefits.

County officials have said libraries could reopen by Nov. 1 if the LSSI contract is approved.
