Kirtland-Blackwell intersection will close for weekend

The intersection of Kirtland and Blackwell roads near Interstate 5's exit 35 north of Central Point will be closed over the coming weekend as work continues in the area.

Local traffic will be allowed through the intersection during the closure. The intersection is due to reopen Monday, Sept. 27.

"We expect the work to take all weekend," said ODOT Public Service Representative Dennis Steers. "Our plan is to reopen the intersection to all traffic Monday morning."

A $1.9 million project to improve Highway 140 began last July. Project plans call for a realignment of Kirtland and Blackwell roads near exit 35.

The project removes the stop sign for westbound traffic at Kirtland Road. Travelers on that road will continue through a new curve and intersection, which acts as an extension of Highway 140 in White City to the Blackwell Road interchange with I-5.

The project adds a Kirtland Road undercrossing for bicyclists and pedestrians as part of the Rogue River Greenway.
