Jacksonville Elementary School honors young writers

Thirty local authors, publishers, columnists, educators and other writing professionals will meet with the Jacksonville Elementary School students in a writers festival today.

Students, grades kindergarten through sixth, have selected their favorite piece of writing to share at the festival starting at 6 p.m. at Jacksonville Elementary, 655 Hueners Lane

Local author and educator, Ginny Fowler Hicks, will serve as the evening's keynote speaker. She will discuss her children's book "Mountain Star" and the importance of meaningful writing opportunities for students.

Students also will present a copy of the 2010-2011 Jacksonville Elementary School Student Anthology to principal, Rick Snyder. Several copies will be featured in the school library and on classroom shelves. Every student at Jacksonville Elementary school is a published author.
