Jackson County schools receive $1.26 million from state fund

Jackson County's nine school districts received $1.26 million from Oregon's Common School Fund this month, according to a news release.

The districts were among the 197 statewide to receive $24.4 million in total funds, distributed in two payments.

The State Land Board, which includes Gov. John Kitzhaber and state Treasurer Ted Wheeler, oversees the fund. It was established to allocate state land funds for Oregon's "common," or public, schools.

The Land Board passed a temporary resolution to distribute 5 percent of the fund's three-year average balance following the state Legislature's announced 2011-13 biennium budget, if the account has adequate funds.
