Investigators gather confounding details in stabbing case

Details remain sketchy on a reported stabbing that prompted sheriff's deputies to search a White City home earlier today for the suspect.

The assault happened at around 1:30 p.m. today but was not reported until later. The victim, whose name was not made available, was taken to a hospital with a minor shoulder wound and should be treated and released, said Jackson County Undersheriff Rod Countryman.

Deputies are working to figure out where the assault actually occurred. They spent the afternoon searching a home in the 7900 block of Division Road after receiving a tip that the suspect might be hiding in the residence. The house, which is unoccupied, was searched by deputies and a police dog provided by Medford police.

"We got word that the suspect may have jumped a fence in the back of the residence, but there is no evidence that happened," Countryman said. "We do not think he is in the area."

Countryman did not release the suspect's name, as he is not confident that the information he's received from those involved is accurate.

"The more we look into this one the more confusing it gets," Countryman said.
