Hundreds spiff up for United Way groups

Who are all those volunteers doing good deeds around the region this morning?

It's the United Way of Jackson County's 12th annual Day of Caring.

The organization, in partnership with Southern Oregon University, will put more than 350 volunteers at 14 sites for a day of projects including landscaping, painting and carpentry.

The event also kicks off United Way's fall fund drive. The campaign goal this year is $1,150,566, and to date more than 25 percent has been received in pledges and receipts, the organization reports.
