Historical Society award goes to Gold Diggers Guild

The Southern Oregon Historical Society has awarded the 2008 Southern Oregon Heritage Award to the Gold Diggers Guild.

The Gold Diggers Guild was founded in 1977 to help raise funds for SOHS. Its 50-plus members have held fundraising events that allowed SOHS to provide educational programs and finish other projects.

The award will be presented to co-presidents Liz Smith and Carol Holst at the SOHS annual meeting at Hanley Farm on June 21. Members are asked to bring a guest and a pie to share during the gathering, which will include house and garden tours from 1 to 2 p.m. and a town-hall meeting at 2 p.m.

The historical society presents the Southern Oregon Heritage Award annually to those individuals who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the preservation and promotion of history. Past recipients include George Kramer (2007), Kay Atwood and Bert Webber (2006), author Marjorie Lutz O'Harra (2005) and Lyn and Reeve Hennion (2004).

The Southern Oregon Historical Society is a member-supported, nonprofit organization. For more information, call 773-6536 or visit online at www.sohs.org.
