Grants Pass stabbing suspect in custody

The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety has arrested a man who allegedly stabbed another man in the head during a fight at the Red Rock Lounge.

Selma resident Britt Jason Jones, 39, is in the Josephine County Jail on charges of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and out-of-county warrants for attempting to deliver a controlled substance and money laundering. His bail is set at $110,000, jail records show.

The stabbing occurred at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, during a fight between two men at the Red Rock Lounge, 112 NE Morgan Lane. The fight end with the stabbing and Jones fleeing from the scene.

The stabbed man, 25-year-old Michael McCoy was taken to Asante Three Rivers Medical Center, and was later transferred to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center for further treatment. He is now at Oregon Health & Science University, where he remains in critical condition.

Police responded to the scene and conducted an initial search for Jones with help from a police dog. Jones wasn't found that night, though police tracked him to his Selma home in the 200 block of Warren Road the next day. Grants Pass police SWAT and Oregon State Police flocked to the home with a search warrant.

Jones was found hiding after an extensive search of the property, police said. The case remains under investigation and officials expect to file additional charges. Anyone with further information on the case should contact Grants Pass police at 541-450-6260.
