Goodwill opens new Central Point store

Southern Oregon Goodwill Industries opens a new store Friday, Aug. 24, in the Mountain View Plaza in Central Point.

Goodwill previously operated a shop on Front Street. The 7,000-square-foot space at 1249 Plaza Blvd., near Albertsons and Mazatlan Grill has an additional 2,000 square feet of retail space.

Goodwill has had a presence in Central Point since 2000, said Gayle Byrne, president and chief executive officer. The expanded operation will generate funds to provide job-related services and programs with 85 cents of every retail dollar going to Goodwill programs."

A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for 8:45 a.m. with Central Point Mayor Hank Williams, city staff and council members, chamber of commerce and Goodwill representatives on hand.

The old Central Point retail and donation center, 507 S. Front Street, ceases operations at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23. Goodwill operates 14 retail stores and 14 dedicated donation sites in six Southern Oregon counties, including seven shops in Jackson County.
