Ghiglieri qualifies for Junior Nationals

Aaron Ghiglieri turned in another impressive performance in the pool Wednesday night, qualifying for the Junior Nationals and joining the elite status among 15-year-olds with his 100 freestyle outing in Gresham.

Ghiglieri won the B Bonus final in the 100 in a personal-best time of 52.70 seconds in the Speedo Championship Series Senior Sectionals at the Mount Hood Aquatic Center.

According to his coach Robin Brickenden, Ghiglieri's time is now the second-fastest in the nation among 15-year-olds and automatically qualifies him for the Long Course Junior Nationals slated for mid-August in Federal Way, Wash. His time also qualifies him for the Short Course Senior Nationals.

The Triton Swim Team standout will continue competition in Gresham over the next three days, swimming in the 200 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle.

Ghiglieri's best time heading into the sectionals was 54.10, but he improved to 53.91 in the morning preliminaries before really turning it up in the B Bonus final.

Also Wednesday, Sarah Reierson of the Superior Stingray Swimming Club went 2:27.5 in the 200 backstroke but did not advance into the finals.
