Geological tests restrict traffic

ROGUE RIVER - Drilling work scheduled near the Interstate 5 bridges over the Rogue River at milepost 45 and the Valley of the Rogue State Park will cause lane closures, starting today, transportation officials say.

The geological test samples are expected to be extracted through Friday. The work schedule is weather dependent, says Gary Leaming of the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Drilling work near the access road to Valley of the Rogue State Park will require temporary single-lane closures. The rest area and park will remain open with flaggers directing one-way traffic through the work zone. I-5 motorists are advised to watch for roadside crews, although no I-5 lane closures are expected.

The drilling is part of a project to repair five I-5 bridges between Gold Hill and Rogue River. The improvements will also realign the access road to Valley of the Rogue State Park to increase safety for trucks and other large vehicles. Construction is planned to begin in late 2008.
