Fuego picks up franchise's first win

SAN JOSE, Calif. — It took them four tries, but the Southern Oregon Fuego semi-pro soccer team earned its first franchise victory on Saturday, and in exciting fashion.

Uriel Castillo booted in the winning goal in the 87th minute on a free kick to break a scoreless match, giving the Fuego a 1-0 triumph over Real San Jose at Yerva Buena High School.

Castillo bent his shot over the head of the goalkeeper and connected in the far left corner of the net from 18 yards.

There were three minutes of time added to regulation, but it wasn't enough time for San Jose to answer.

Goalkeeper Brook Johnson posted the shutout for the Fuego (1-3), who were able to limit San Jose's scoring opportunities.
