Friends plan show for man facing bills

Friends of an Ashland actor/musician facing thousands of dollars in medical bills plan the David Gabriel Benefit Variety Show in Ashland tonight.

It begins at 7 p.m. at the Historic Ashland Armory, 208 Oak St. Tickets are $25.

Camelot Theatre's Artistic Director Livia Genise and author Jeff Golden will serve as the evening's co-emcees.

Performers include The Hamazons, Derocher, Paula Flowers, Renee Hewitt, Heather Hutton, Karen Lovely, Richard Williams, Gayle Wilson and Gabriel himself.

The Nowhere Men, featuring Dave Marston, Brent Norton and Joe Cahoon, will cap off the evening with lively Beatles tunes for dancing.

Gabriel ran up $57,000 in medical bills in October when he was hospitalized for two weeks at Ashland Community Hospital, and $24,000 was not covered by insurance, the show's organizers say.

They say all proceeds from the event will go to pay Gabriel's medical bills.

Details: 488-3121.
