Freshman not assaulted outside at SOU, Ashland police now say

At least part of a Southern Oregon University freshman's story about being attacked and sexually assaulted last week as she walked on campus was false, police now say.

Police announced this morning that the teen reported that she had been attacked by two men as she walked on campus early Friday morning. She provided police with descriptions, and police alerted students to take extra care after the apparent attacks.

Tonight, however, police said they now know that no attack occurred "outside on the SOU campus." They said the teen "maintains that a sexual assault did occur on campus in a dormitory room."

Police also said the freshman knew both men she says were involved in the attack.

An investigation is continuing.
