Free lecture to discuss arthritis treatment options

Providence Medford Medical Center will host a free lecture where guest speakers will discuss treatment options for arthritic fingers 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at Providence's Mary Norbert Hall, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., according to a news release.

The lecture will feature hand surgeon Paul Sternenberg, of Southern Oregon Orthopedics, and certified hand therapist Janis Gubser from Providence Hand Clinic.

The event is open to the public, but seating is limited. Those interested in attending should call 541-732-6237 to reserve a space.

Attendees will learn the non-surgical and surgical options available to help treat and improve finger function. Protection techniques that can help reduce pain, stress and inflammation, prevent further deformities and increase independence in daily activities will also be discussed. For those who require surgery for rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, the experts will discuss artificial joint replacement for fingers — from the surgical process to post-surgical therapy.
