Fisherman drowns in Rogue River

A Williams man drowned Wednesday afternoon in the Rogue River near Whitehorse Park.

A€ˆnews release from the Josephine County Sheriff's Office identified the victim as Ronald Dumas Sr. He had celebrated his 75th birthday about two weeks earlier.

According to the release, he was on a fishing trip with his wife, Anne Dumas, and Dwayne Allan Prose, also of the Williams area. They put in at Whitehorse Park, but the driftboat struck a rock about one-quarter of a mile downstream, pivoted and capsized.

None of them was wearing a life jacket, the release said, and the current swept Ronald Dumas downriver. Anne Dumas and Prose were able to make it to shore.

The body of Ronald Dumas was recovered shortly before 4 p.m. about three-quarters of a mile downriver from the scene of the accident.
