Fire level falls to moderate

After a wet weekend, the fire-danger level dropped to moderate in Jackson and Josephine counties Monday, the Oregon Department of Forestry announced.

Under the moderate or "blue" fire-danger level, the open burning of debris in piles and burn barrels is prohibited, but all other restrictions designed to prevent wildfires have been removed. The industrial fire precaution level remains at 1 in all zones, officials said.

A low-pressure system brought steady rains to the Rogue Valley over the weekend, with nearly three-quarters of an inch recorded at the Medford airport.
