Fire closes Glide-area highway

A wildfire has closed Highway 138 19 miles east of Glide.

The fire was reported this afternoon and has burned about 20 acres in the Umpqua National Forest on Bogus Creek in the Steamboat area, said Tom Fields, a spokesman for the Douglas Forest Protective Association. A smaller spot fire sparked by the main fire has burned another three or four acres.

Helicopters and ground crews are battling the blaze, which is burning in rugged terrain that is difficult to access, Fields said.

Oregon Department of Transportation closed the highway, but had no additional information about when the road might reopen.
