FAA: No quick decision on Crater flights

The Federal Aviation Administration says it will take "several years" to consider a Bend company's application to offer helicopter tours over Crater Lake National Park.

FAA spokesman Allen Kenitzer said today they have a backlog of 85 national parks where air tour management plans have to be developed.

In the meantime, Leading Edge Aviation Inc., has asked for an interim permit.

Kenitzer says it is up to the National Park Service to issue that, and consider whether the noise from the helicopters would interfere with visitors' enjoyment of the park.
