Executive director of Britt Festivals resigns

Britt Festivals Executive Director Jim Fredericks is resigning to take on a new international business opportunity, festival officials announced today.

Fredericks, who came to the festival in January 2010 from Fort Worth, Texas, helped oversee changes that strengthened its relationship with the community, re-engineered many of its operations to position the organization for the future, and resulted in growth in ticket sales and memberships, festival officials said in the announcement.

Some of those changes included increasing the minimum membership cost and eliminating members' vouchers for free shows, offering more reserved blankets, bringing in new food and beverage concessions, and expanding community and education programs. The changes helped whittle away debt and boost attendance. In the recently completed 2011 season, Britt experienced a 15 percent increase in concert attendance over 2010.

"It's with great regret that we accept Jim's resignation," board president Ken Wells said in a prepared statement.

He promised a "swift and seamless" transition thanks to experienced employees and a clear vision from the board.

Fredericks said in the statement that his time with the organization was personally and professionally rewarding. He praised "the magic of the Britt experience" and said he would continue to work with and support the organization. He said he plans to remain in Southern Oregon as he pursues new business opportunities.
