Eagle Point man suspected of shooting, killing roommate

An Eagle Point man is in jail after allegedly shooting and killing his roommate Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Dylan Ashmun, 26, is suspected of killing 24-year-old Joseph Faaeteete. Ashmun is held in the Jackson County Jail on over $1 million bail. He is charged with first-degree manslaughter and felony possession of a firearm. Additional charges are pending.

This is the fourth alleged handgun death in six days in the Rogue Valley, three of which have been in Eagle Point.

Faaeteete's death was first reported as a suicide at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday. Eagle Point police responded to 128 N. Buchanan Ave. following the report and found Faaeteete dead in the garage from an apparent gunshot wound.

Police said conflicting statements from on-scene witnesses was the basis for involving the Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit.

Police concluded Ashmun was the shooter following interviews and arrested him. A search of the home turned up multiple firearms and drugs.

Police have not yet released the reasons or circumstances surrounding the alleged killing.

The Oregon State Police is in charge of the investigation. They were assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Central Point and Ashland police and Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement during the initial investigation.

Police are still searching for an individual who left the Buchanan Avenue residence prior to police arrival. Anyone with additional information should contact Detective Deanna Harris at 541-618-7967 or Sgt. Jeff Fitzgerald at 541-618-7952.
