Eagle Point 2-year-old drowns in family pool

A 2-year-old girl drowned Sunday night in Eagle Point after apparently climbing out of bed and going into the family pool without her parents' knowledge, according to Eagle Point police.

Brooklynne Traina, 2, was pronounced dead at Rogue Valley Medical Center after paramedics attempted CPR.

"She was put to bed," said Eagle Point police Sgt. Jim Gray. "The parents did not see her get up, and she got in the pool."

Paramedics from Jackson County Fire District 3 and Mercy Ambulance were called to the home at 11 Meadowfield in Eagle Point at 8:03 p.m. Sunday for a report of a drowning. When paramedics arrived, Brooklynne was unconscious and not breathing. They started CPR but were unable to save her.

Eagle Point police are still investigating the incident, though no foul play appears to be involved, Gray said.

The pool where Brooklynne drowned was an above-ground pool in the backyard. Gray would not say how the little girl managed to access the pool, citing the pending investigation. Correction: See below.

"It's a sad situation when a 2-year-old dies," Gray said.

He said parents should make sure pools are always secured, so children can't get to them.
