Drum ensemble performs at SOU

A variety of percussionists will bring rhythms from around the world to Southern Oregon University tonight.

The "Rolling Thunder" show starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Southern Oregon University Music Recital Hall.

Taiko drummer and percussionist Kelvin Underwood joins the Southern Oregon University Percussion Ensemble, directed by Terry Longshore, in a performance of Japanese composer Maki Ishii's "Monochrome." In addition to the full ensemble, SOU percussion group Compás, and Reso-Nation Percussion Quartet will perform

On the program tonight are a Zimbabwe-flavored marimba tune, music inspired by the beats of India and Africa, and a "Zappa-esque" composition featuring keyboard percussion, drums, bass, junk percussion, Swiss cowbells and electronics.
