Dogs for the Deaf finalist in contest for car

Central Point-based Dogs for the Deaf Inc. is one of 250 finalists in Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program, which will award vehicles to 100 nonprofit organizations based on votes from the public beginning Oct. 1.

Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program will showcase five nonprofit organizations each day for 50 days at Visitors to the page will receive two votes each day for organizations they feel deserve new Toyota vehicles. Dogs for the Deaf will be one of the five organizations highlighted for voting on Friday, Oct. 4.

If Dogs for the Deaf receives the most votes and is awarded the vehicle, it will be used to rescue dogs from shelters. The vehicle will also be used to transport dogs, trainers and equipment during training.

A news release from Dogs for the Deaf said the organization's current vehicles are too small and old, adding that a new reliable vehicle will help carry out the group's mission of rescuing dogs and helping people.
