Diamond Lake hosts square-dance festival

Get your dance card and your fishing license and head to Diamond Lake.

It’s prime trout season and the 34th annual Diamond Lake Square Dance Festival, sponsored by the Star Promenaders of Medford. The festival starts today and continues through Saturday at the resort, 350 Resort Drive, Diamond Lake.

The event features mainstream, plus and A-1 squares with dances held every morning and evening on an outdoor dance floor overlooking the lake. Wayne Weaver of Medford, and Wade Driver of Texas will be the callers, and Ray and Virginia Walz of Mesa, Ariz., will be the cuers. A mainstream square dance workshop will be offered Saturday.

To get there, take Highway 62 or 230 from Medford. The trip is about 85 miles. Festival packages cost $36, $12 for ages 17 and younger, at the gate. Admission to single events also is available. Call 878-3007 or 800-733-7593.
