Developer plans two airport freight terminals

Two air freight terminals will be built at Medford's airport as a private portion of a state-funded plan to separate passengers from private transit services.

The Sky Way Air Freight Terminal buildings will be 23,000 square feet each and will cost a total of $2 million, according to Carl Artner of the commercial construction firm of C.A. Artner Co. of Central Point.

The freight terminal, to be constructed to the south of the FedEx building on Terminal Spur Road, will be built with private money. But new ramps for planes will be constructed through a portion of $4.76 million that is part of $72.1 million in lottery bond proceeds to finance non-highway transportation projects around the state.

Artner said construction could begin by November and be concluded by February or March. The ramp should be built by January.
